MALACCA: Six people were injured when an express bus they were in was involved in a collision with a 37-tonne trailer on the North-South Expressway near Kampung Bemban here.
Bus driver Hamdan Mohd Arif, 52, was seriously injured while five passengers suffered minor injuries in the incident at 5pm on Monday. The trailer driver Mat Saad Hashim, 38, was unhurt.
Police said the trailer, which was loaded with oil palm fruits, was on its way to Bukit Kayu Hitam, Kedah, and the bus was heading to Kuala Lumpur from Kluang.
Jasin OCPD Deputy Supt Muhd Nur Hishamuddin Hashim said Hamdan was stuck in his seat for more than two hours before rescuers managed to extricate him.
“He was sent to the Malacca Hospital and is reported to be stable,” he said, adding that 16 rescuers from the Jasin, Ayer Keroh and Bukit Katil Fire and Rescue Departments rushed to the scene after receiving the distress call.
