Be Inspired

KOTA KINABALU: A motorcycle accident 14 years ago severely damaged Fariz A. Rani's spinal cord and left him a paraplegic.
He would not lead a normal life anymore after falling off the motorcycle while riding pillion at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Bangi in 1998.
“I was so depressed when I came back to Sabah the first year after the mishap. Getting in and out of bed, taking showers and simple things like switching on the lights became tasks that were as difficult as climbing mountains. I felt so lonely,” said the 33-year-old.
But looking back, Fariz, who now owns a thriving company that supplies prosthetic arms and legs to disabled people throughout the state, believes the accident was actually a blessing in disguise.
