IPOH: A van carrying 10 mentally disabled trainees collided with two lorries at a traffic light junction near Changkat Larang here.
Five of the trainees were seriously injured in the crash as well as the van driver during the 4.42pm incident yesterday. Five other trainees sustained light injuries.
A spokesman from the Pasir Puteh Fire and Rescue Brigade said the victims had be to rescued after they were trapped in the wreckage.
“We were able to rescue them together with the help of passer-bys,” he said.
The van was travelling along Jalan Simpang Pulai towards Lahat, Pasir Puteh, when the accident happened.
In SUNGAI BULOH, an express bus overturned at KM57 of the North-South Expressway, injuring 17 out of its 30 passengers, including two drivers, and causing a massive traffic jam along the highway.
Selangor traffic chief Supt Zulkifli Jonit said all those injured had been sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital.
He said during the 3pm incident yesterday, the bus was heading to Kedah from Puduraya.
It is learnt that the bus driver was avoiding a lorry before the vehicle rammed into the divider and overturned.
A passenger, known only as Lan, said he was reading the newspaper when the driver suddenly hit the emergency brake.
Lan, who was heading to Butterworth, said the bus hit the divider before it skidded and overturned.
PLUS, on its Twitter account, said the accident caused traffic congestions stretching from Damansara to Subang.
