Five seriously injured after express bus crashes into lorry

IPOH: Five people were seriously injured while 22 others sustained light injuries when the express bus they were in crashed into the rear side of a lorry.
The accident occurred at KM231.8 of the North-South Expressway near Kuala Kangsar at about 1.30am yesterday, and the impact left the front of the bus completely smashed.
Kuala Kangsar Deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Guan Beng Kang said the north-bound bus was carrying 28 people when it rammed into the lorry.
“The bus driver is among those seriously injured while the condition of the co-driver has yet to be established. All are warded at Taiping Hospital.
“Meanwhile, 15 passengers received outpatient treatment at Taiping Hospital and seven others at Kuala Kangsar Hospital,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Kuala Kangsar Fire and Rescue Department officer Abdul Halim Mat Siga said the department received a distress call at 1.58am.
“Firemen from the Kuala Kangsar and Taiping stations had to use rescue tools to free victims trapped in the wreckage, and the rescue operation was completed at 4.05am,” he said.
